Now, I live on Caroline. We will occasionally get mail for the same house number on Hollydale. This is no big deal, we just walk it over, or if it's winter, stick it in the mailbox and they'll fix it.
BUT...
(and here's the whole point of this post)
This morning as I left my house to walk my dog, a cop car slowed down in front of my house and stopped in front of my neighbors' driveway. Since it seemed to be a quiet morning, I was a little worried that this cop was going to say something smart about either making sure I pick up after Nessa (I had a bag visibly tucked into the waistband of my pj shorts), or the fact that I was barefoot. Cops around here like to make smart and unnecessary comments. But he didn't say anything, so I contuinued down to the corner. Nessa did her business and we turned around and headed home. As we came up to the cop again, he was standing in front of my neighbors' house, feet apart, hands on his hips, looking confused. He asked if I knew who lived there, at ####, and I said mostly just by sight, I think they moved in last spring. He said, "This is #### Hollydale, right?" I just shook my head and before I finished saying "No, this is Caroline, Hollydale is the next street over" he was back in his squad car, speeding off around the corner.
Now, I can understand the mailman occasionally bringing the wrong mail. I can understand the pizza guy, or the Jimmy John's guy, the cable guy, the phone guy, and any number of service providers getting the address mixed up.
But a cop???
That worries me a little... He was on the wrong street for at least five minutes. If there's a situation that has already warranted calling the police, five minutes could make it a lot worse. Even if he was newer to our town's PD, shouldn't he have to learn the territory and have it memorized before he goes out to answer calls on his own?
Scary. Glad I'm leaving soon. Not happy my parents will be here for another three years. :(
That is scary. Guess if you call the cops in that area, you have to send thema map too!
